Daily Supplements | What I Currently Take

Hi beautiful friends!!!! I am finally taking the time to sit down and share all of my daily supplements I am currently taking! I get asked what daily supplements I take at least 10x a day (not kidding) so this is long overdue…. The reason it’s taken me so long to share my daily supplements is because I have been taking my time properly experimenting with what works and what doesn’t! I NEVER want to share something with you unless I try it and love it for a good amount of time, and have experimented with it for long enough to know whether it works or not! So thank you for being patient while I vet these daily supplements! 🙂 With that being said every body is different so what works for me may not work for you; also I hate to state the obvious but I am not a doctor, so be sure to do your own research before adding any of these into your daily supplements rotation!

If you watched my most recent What I Eat In a Day video on my YouTube channel then you already know that I start every day the same exact way:

#1: 16 ounces of water with fresh lemon juice

#2: 12-16 ounces of plain celery juice (click here to read why!)

#3: 1 clove of raw fermented garlic (I get mine at my local Farmer’s Market!)

#4: Bio-k probiotic (more on this below!)

#5: FourSigmatic Mushroom coffee (click here to read why!)

aaaaaand as if I needed one more step; a new addition to my morning routine is:

#6: 1 TSP. of Manuka Honey (more on why below!)

THEN I have my breakfast, then I take my daily supplements! I take some in the morning and some before bed, I specify everything below though so keep reading! 🙂

Before I get into sharing what I take and why I take it I want to share my goals with all of the daily supplements I take! My overall goal is to fill in the gaps, boost my immune system (which just helps me stay healthy overall, but also helps me keep my skin clear) and keep my gut and digestive system happy so that my body can work properly (and so that I can keep my skin clear). I get most of the vitamins and minerals I need from the plant-based whole foods that I eat daily in abundance, but just to be sure I am at optimal health I add these babies in to keep my health in tip top shape! Our bodies are always changing so I at some point will be adjusting my daily supplements based on what my body needs but for now, below is what I take and why I take it!

PS: how great are these monthly vitamin organizers? They make my day to day so much easier I only take one day a month to organize all of my daily supplements for the rest of the month! I got 2, one for my morning supplements and one for the stuff I take before bed! Click here for organizers!

Daily Supplements | What I Currently Take:

MORNING SUPPLEMENTS:

1 TSP. Manuka Honey: Like I said above I only just recently started to incorporate Manuka Honey into my daily wellness routine after learning about its antibacterial effects. Part of me feels like some of my skin issues are related to bad bacteria in my gut so I have been all about taking/consuming anything and everything that has natural antibacterial properties. Methylglyoxal is the compound that gives Manuka honey it’s antimicrobial properties that are so effective. In addition to being antimicrobial, Manuka honey has antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. In fact, it has traditionally been used for wound healing, soothing sore throats and improving digestive issues! I eat 1 TSP. of it every morning (I get a rush of energy after I do it so it’s best in the morning in my opinion) and I’ll even spot treat active breakouts with it to kill off bacteria! FYI: not all Manuka honey is created equally. The most important thing to look for when buying Manuka honey is to look at where it was labeled and if it has the UMF trademark – make sure you are buying Manuka honey sourced from New Zealand, with a UMF rating of 15+ or higher for maximum benefits. This stuff is not cheap but I can confidently say I have noticed improvements in the areas I spot treat as well as my digestion, so it’s worth it! I did a ton of research and decided to buy the Comvita brand which is linked here as it had the best reviews and was the best price for the quality, and so far I love it!

Ritual Vitamins: I love these women’s daily multi vitamins because I can take them on an empty stomach and they don’t make me feel sicky. They also have an amazing minty aftertaste which I love. Beyond those reasons I like that they created a multi that revolves around the most common nutrient shortfalls in females, which helps maintain energy, immunity, and skin! Most multis have 20+ ingredients you already get enough of from food, Ritual vitamins contain only the nutrients you need, in bioavailable forms your body can actually use! ALSO they deliver them right to your door and are super affordable.. love!

Vital Protein Beauty Boost: I take this supplement to help my body produce it’s own collagen, which is the building block for supporting healthy hair, skin, and nails, digestion, and bone and joint health. It’s super rich in biotin and Vitamin C!

Silverfern Probiotic: I take this to help my gut stay healthy and happy = healthy and happy skin and body!

Bio-k probiotic: I take this to help my gut stay healthy and happy = healthy and happy skin and body!

Zinc: Zinc is a trace element (essential mineral) that the body needs for optimal health. Zinc is important for a healthy immune system, and a healthy immune system will keep your body strong against disease and illness. Since the human body does not store excess zinc it must be consumed regularly as part of the diet. Common dietary sources of zinc include red meat, poultry, and fish, but since I am plant-based I make sure to take this supplement daily to help keep my immune system on point!

Vitamin C: Vitamin C plays an important role in the body. Most well known for it’s immune boosting qualities, it is also needed to maintain the health of skin, cartilage, teeth, bone, and blood vessels. It also helps protect your body’s cells from damage!

Lypospheric C: another vitamin c supplement (I take it for the same reasons above) this liquid gel pack contains highly absorbable vitamin C! If you read my Cold Remedies blog post then you know I always double up on it when I am feeling a sickness coming on or traveling, but it is something I incorporate daily as well!

Lysine: Lysine is a building block for protein. It’s an essential amino acid because your body cannot make it, so you need to obtain it from food or like me, by supplementation. It’s important for normal growth and muscle turnover and used to form carnitine, a substance found in most cells of your body. It also helps transport fats across your cells to be burned for energy. After much research I decided to start taking it daily after I learned that it can also help reduce anxiety by blocking stress response receptors (helps me keep my skin clear of stress related breakouts!) and helps my body create collagen.

Selenium: Selenium is a powerful antioxidant that aids in thyroid health, boosts the immune system, and is great for acne prone bb’s like me!

BEFORE BED SUPPLEMENTS

Oil of Oregano: Oil of oregano helps me keep my immune system on point; it’s also antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory! I also talk about this supplement in my Cold Remedies blog post as it’s great for when you are feeling under the weather but just like my vitamin C supplements, this is something I take regularly to help me stay well. As a yoga teacher I come in contact with lots and lot of people on a regular basis so it’s important for me to keep my immune system strong.

Garlic capsules: Since I eat a clove of raw garlic in the morning I like to book end my day with a garlic capsule. I mainly take garlic as it’s antibacterial and antimicrobial properties help me ward off bad bacteria in my body that may be the cause of my acne, but garlic is also known to lower blood pressure and cholesterol, has anti-inflammatory effects and helps the body build a stronger immune system! The more garlic the better if you ask me. Also, a lot of you ask me if I smell garlicky since I eat raw garlic and take garlic capsules and I gotta be honest I do notice it a little if I eat the garlic right before I go work out and sweat a lot but other than that no!

Nettle Leaf: nettle leaf is well known to help reduce stress and tension, helps with allergies, plus many more uses; but I mainly take it for it’s anti-inflammatory qualities. I love nettle leaf capsules but I also do nettle leaf tea as well!

Lemon Balm capsules: Lemon balm can help ease stress and anxiety, insomnia, high cholesterol, indigestion, and heartburn. I take it for the digestive benefits and of course, to help me manage stress and anxiety.. which yes, you guessed it, helps me keep my skin balanced (are you noticing the trend here?! lol). I take lemon balm capsules and also drink lemon balm tea regularly.

MSM: MSM improves skin health and complexion, strengthens hair and nails and detoxifies the body. It is also said to help improve flexibility, accelerate healing and is anti-inflammatory!

Turmeric: Turmeric (more specifically its most active compound curcumin) has so many scientifically-proven health benefits, such as the potential to prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer. It’s a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis. Make sure you get a turmeric supplement that has black pepper in it otherwise your body will not be able to absorb it and reap the benefits!

CALM Magnesium Powder: I drink this every night before bed to help me relax and de-stress for a good nights rest. I also feel like it helps my muscles relax and recover faster! Also worth noting: magnesium is a well known natural laxative which is great to help you detox your body daily and get things moving if you know what I mean….was that TMI? Oh well gotta keep it real, #YOLO!

In my smoothies/protein shake:

For my vegan protein shakes I do 1-2 scoops of a plant-based protein powder plus the below! Lately I have been nixing the nut milk and just using water as the liquid in my shakes!

The Beauty Chef Inner Glow Probiotic Powder: I’ve been loving this powder because it’s full of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, amino acids, pre-biotics and pro-biotics!

Foursigmatic Superfood Mushroom Blend: IMMUNITY among other things.. but I mostly add this one in for my immune system!

Echinacea Goldenseal: Promotes healthy skin and boosts the immune system!

MRM Glutamine: Glutamine is so much more than just a “fitness supplement” like it is often marketed, it’s great for the gut! Glutamine minimizes muscle breakdown (anti-catabolic), enhances brain and memory function, supports intestinal, digestive and immune health!

Ok there you have it, all of the daily supplements I am currently taking! It seems like a lot now that I have it all written out, but it doesn’t feel like much when I am doing it on a daily basis 😉  The truth is I love taking care of my body and health so I enjoy my daily ritual of gut-healing immune boosting supplements 🙂 If you have any questions please feel free to leave me a comment below! Otherwise, catch me on YouTube or on the gram! Sending you love bb’s!
