5 Beauty Boosting Habits for a Healthy New Year!

happy new year 2018

Beauty Boosting Healthy Habit #1: HYDRATION

hydrate

One of  THE most important beauty boosting healthy habits is hydration! Plain and simply: water is the main component of the body ! In fact, the adult body is about 60-70% water. Our bodies use water in all of its cells, organs and tissues to help regulate its temperature and maintain other bodily functions. Since we lose water through breathing, sweating and digestion, it’s extremely important to drink water to hydrate and replenish in order to ensure proper body function! Drinking enough water is vital in keeping our bodies healthy. There are SO many health benefits of drinking enough water each day, but when it comes to the connection between water and clear glowing skin: our skin is the largest elimination organ in the body!! When the body is not sufficiently hydrated, the skin is the first site that is affected when your body goes into water conservation mode. When dehydrated, the skin loses moisture, which in turn lessens circulation to the skin area, circulation that provides essential nutrients. If the body is even slightly dehydrated and the pores become clogged, the imbalanced pH of the skin will create a fertile breeding ground for bacteria, thus creating acne. Mo’ water, less problems. Not to mention, de-hydration can make your skin look dry and wrinkled too. Water also acts as an excellent detoxifier as it helps flush out toxins from the body and rid it of waste primarily through sweat, elimination and urine. Bottom line: hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE!

Beauty Boosting Healthy Habit #2: SLEEP

Getting enough rest is SO important for so many reasons…our bodies simply can not function at an optimal level if we are not getting an adequate amount of sleep. Take it from me, for a long time I was working a night job that kept me up until 4AM while I was starting my blog and yoga teaching career, which meant most nights I was only getting about 4 hours of sleep.. if that; my mood was erratic, my skin was out of control, I couldn’t focus, my hair felt brittle, my hormones were completely out of whack and I felt sluggish and yucky ALL THE TIME. I was sleep deprived, and it was horrible. Not sleep (or not enough) will raise your cortisol levels which can cause inflammation in the body! Aim to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night for clear, vibrant, supple skin, a clear mind, and just for overall better quality of life!

Beauty Boosting Healthy Habit #3: VITAL PROTEINS BEAUTY BOOST SUPPLEMENT

A good ORGANIC and naturally derived supplement is EVERYTHING! I absolutely LOVE the vitamin-rich Vital Proteins Beauty Boost supplement as it is as clean as it gets- it is Non-GMO Project Verified, 100% vegan and it’s made with only USDA Organic fruits and vegetables! YASSSS. In addition to being vegan, organic, and non-GMO it is also gluten-free, Paleo friendly, Whole 30 approved, plus is has no sugar added! Vital Proteins Beauty Boost supplement is rich in biotin and Vitamin C, as well as B6 and Selenium for some extra TLC for the  hair, skin and nails! The Vital Proteins Beauty Boost supplement is more than just capsules with vitamins to feed your body- this combination of ingredients is truly amazing because they offer your body the keys to produce its OWN collagen (collagen is the building block for supporting healthy hair, skin, and nails, as well as digestion, bone and joint health) .. by taking 3 capsules a day you are strengthening your bodies ability to generate collagen, aiding in the body healing itself, and transforming your body from the inside out… how cool is that?!

Beauty Boosting Healthy Habit #4: CUT BACK ON SUGAR

Look, I am all for enjoying life and eating that sweet treat when you feel like it, but too much refined sugar can cause your insulin levels to spike, which leads to high levels of unnecessary inflammation throughout the body. Why that is the ultimate skin boosting fail is because inflammation produces enzymes that break down collagen and elastin which are 2 things we need to keep our skin looking vibrant and glowy!

Beauty Boosting Healthy Habit #5: MEDITATE/YOGA

meditate

I am big fan of yoga and meditation for many reasons, but as it pertains to this blog post I want to talk about how meditation and yoga can directly affect your skin ! Meditating for as little as 5 minutes a day gives you the opportunity to intentionally draw  prana (also knowns as life force or energy) into the body, which promotes physical and emotional balance, ultimately creating a calm state within the body and the mind. When we experince high levels of stress/upset the cortisol levels in our bodies spike which causes unnecessary inflammation in the body, which can then lower our immune systems, AND make us more prone to experience acne, dry skin, skin irritations, wrinkles and even hair loss.. plus a slew of other health issues we go through life trying to avoid. Stress is POISON to the body (and the mind)…. for real. Long story short: meditation and yoga can help reduce stress, and reduced stress equals better skin BETTER EVERYTHING!

Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2018 !
