About 5 years ago I discovered a green juice detox from a woman I nannied for and quite simply- I fell in love with the way it made me feel. It is extremely rare that I miss a morning juice and it has been that way for the last 5 years.
One of the biggest things I base my eating on is food combining. I’ll get more into that later in another post, but for now let me briefly explain how this pertains to having a green juice first thing in the morning before you eat: vegetables and unprocessed whole foods are easiest for the body to digest = more frequent elimination = less food sitting in your stomach turning into fat/rotting and creating toxicity in your gut. Starting out the day with a cup of hot water + lemon + cayenne and then following up wth a green juice is creating a clear and clean passage way/environment for any and all of the foods that follow for the rest of the day. In just 12 oz of green juice you are giving your body tons of vitamins and minerals that will essentially set the tone for the rest of the day! You’ll also notice an increase in energy and your digestion will thank you 🙂 Fruit juice is very different than green vegetable based juices. While I love certain fruit juices, a mostly vegetable based juice is where you will receive optimal results.
My favorite green juice detox combo is apple, lemon, ginger, spinach, kale, parsley, cucumber + any other greens I’ve got to throw in there!
I like a lot of lemon and ginger (lemon is great for killing bacteria in the body/very detoxifying) and I only do 1/2 an apple at most (apples contain a lot of fiber but also a lot of sugar, so by using a smaller amount of apple you can still sweeten up your juice and cut any bitterness from the greens, while still keeping the sugar content low) Greens are free reign if you ask me, the more the merrier!
