Hi bb’s!! If you follow me on Instagram then you’ve probably seen me talking about this hemp seed milk I made the other day- IT’S INSANE! Seriously.. so so good!! I am so excited to finally share the recipe with you!! As many of you know I have been struggling with acne for the past five months.. I have been doing a lot of experimenting with different forms of treatments, food and skincare products. Truth be told I have always had sensitive skin, but my struggles with acne didn’t really start to show up until I was in my early 20’s.. and it is something I have had to deal with on and off for the past 5 years. Not util recently did it get really bad to the point where I just couldn’t take it anymore- I knew it was my body giving me red flags that something NEEDED TO CHANGE! One of my friends told me that she cut out nuts from her diet for a month and it helped heal her skin! After doing some research I learned that nuts can cause skin issues, so I decided to cut back on my nut consumption for about a month to see if it helps at all! At first I did;t think it would be very hard as I didn’t realize just how much nuts I was consuming on a day to day basis… almond milk milk in my coffee, almond milk in my smoothies, almonds for a snack, cashews for a snack, cashew cheese, all the nuts! YIKES! From what I understand, nuts in moderation are good.. but there is such a thing as too much of a good ting.. and for someone like me that is already acne prone, consuming copious amounts of nuts every single day may cause inflammation in the body- which is the very thing I am fighting.
So the first thing that I decided to switch out was the nut milk that I was using in my smoothies and coffee! I decided to try making my own hemp seed milk just on a whim and to my surprise I like it better than my previously used almond milk!! It is so good, so smooth and so easy to make! OH YEAH, there is also nearly 4g of plant-based protein per half cup! YAY! The following recipe makes about 5 cups. This preservative-free hemp seed milk is good in the freezer for up to 1 month, and good in the fridge for up to 5 days!
1/2 cup hemp seeds
3 cups water
1 pinch sea salt
3-5 drops of vanilla stevia (optional)
cinnamon (optional)
Combine hemp seeds + water + sea salt + stevia/cinnamon in a blender and then blend until smooth! I used a cheese cloth to strain the mixture after I was done blending, but you could skip this step if you wanted- totally not necessary!
That’s it! So easy right?!?!?!?! If I had known how easy this would be I would’ve done it so much sooner! Hope you love this recipe as much as I do! If you don;t already be sure to follow me on Instagram for recipes, yoga, fitness and wellness tips on the reg!
