Healthy Obsessions // Vegan Beauty Products

Hi Babes!! ♡

I have been getting a lot of questions about vegan beauty products, so I figured it was time for a dedicated blog post so I can share some of my current favorites! If you’ve been thinking about making the switch to vegan beauty products, but don’t know where to start: THIS IS FOR YOU! Or I mean, hey.. maybe you’ve already switched over and you’re just looking for some new stuff to try.. either way, I hope you find this helpful 🙂 Now I will say that I am NOT a beauty expert by any means, but what I am is picky AF when it comes to.. well pretty much everything lol, and I have tried my fair share of products during my transition to clean beauty; so with that being said, I feel like I’ve compiled a pretty solid list!

Vegan beauty products for hair ••••••

vegan hair care

I have been a long time on and off Pureology user, but just recently came back to the line and started using their new Hydrate Sheer line and I love it! Both the Pureology Hydrate Sheer Shampoo and Conditioner  are 100% vegan (which by the way I had NO idea until I started researching good vegan hair care!!) and it’s perfect for my particular hair type; I have a lot of hair but each hair itself is fine, so anything too heavy does NOT work for my hair! I need something moisturizing but light, and this stuff is just that. This line is safe for color treated hair (it’s sulfate and silicon-free!) plus, a little goes a long way which is great because each bottle usually lasts me a few months at least. Oh, and P.S. the conditioner smells AMAZING!

Vegan beauty products for body ••••••

vegan lotion

I have been using Pai Comfrey & Calendula Calming Body Cream for a few months now and I love it. I first discovered it at The Detox Market on Beverly Blvd. after becoming fed up with my skin feeling dry and irritated from the crap I was putting on it before. Plus, with all the working out, yoga, sweating, teaching etc. that I do I tend to shower A LOT, which can be very drying for the skin. I should also mention, my skin is just ultra sensitive in general.. so I need to use something that is gentle and soothing. One of the main ingredients is calendula, which is an anti-inflammatory, and it perfect for calming skin irritations. The other main ingredient is comfrey, which is super allantoin-rich and helps with dryness, as well as soothing the appearance of irritated skin (allantoin is an extract from the root of the comfrey plant, and is a soothing, non-irritating ingredient that has the ability to help heal the skin; it stimulates cell regeneration, and the growth of healthy tissue!)

vegan body serum

I also really love One Love Organics Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum. I switch between this and the Pai body cream pretty evenly, and I do so intuitively with no real rhyme or reason 🙂 I use this serum right after a bath or shower, and I put it everywhere but my face. I think it smells AMAZING, but I really love the smell of gardenias so I may be biased! 😉 I am obsessed with the fact that this serum comes in a little misting bottle! For whatever reason when I am rushed for time the thought of sitting down and putting lotion on sounds like a long, time consuming, luxurious process, but I feel like I have no excuse to not moisturize if I use this body serum because I can easily spray my entire body in like 1 minute or less. Mad props to you One Love Organics, that spray detail was a brilliant idea.

vegan body oil

I can’t believe I’m about to talk about neck and decollate moisturizing, because I remember being like 10 years old and thinking that was just for “grown ups” lol.. but ya know.. time flies!! I guess I’m a grown up now…… Welcome to aging! Actually, in reality no matter what age you are now, the fact is we are all “aging” so to speak.. so START NOW! Our skin is our largest organ, and we should be showing the delicate areas just as much TLC as we show our face!

It wasn’t until recently that I started to pay more attention to my neck/eyes/decollate/hands etc. and discovered the Indie Lee Grapefruit Citrus Nutrient Oil! It’s made with only 7 100% natural ingredients; it’s parabben-free, sulfate-free, artificial fragrance free, and VEGAN! YAY! I really love putting it on right after a shower/bath so that my skin really absorbs all the nutrients. I generally just put it on my neck and decollate, but sometimes I do put it on all over. It’s an oil, but it’s not greasy at all, and I have had no problems with it as far as clogging my pores or irritating my skin! It has a very light scent to it that smells fresh without being overpowering, and it seems to mix well with whatever perfume I am using which is a plus! Also (on a very superficial note ) the packaging and branding is so cute and clean… I am a total sucker for good packaging! 😉

vegan shaving cream

A few months back this company called COCO LOCO sent me a few samples to try and I fell in love with their Coconut Oil Shaving Lotion ! It comes out of the tube creamy, smells amazing, and gives a perfect shave. I am always a little wary about using oils in the shower because they can make the floor of the shower/tub slippery AF and I’m not trying to have a falling accident lol… but I am happy to report this particular product does not do that, in fact it’s not super oily or greasy whatsoever, which I was surprised to find since it is coconut oil based.

Vegan beauty products for face ••••••

vegan cleanser

I started using Youth To The People’s Age Prevention Cleanser about 5 or 6 months ago and I love it! I actually took it into my dermatologists office for her approval before trying it because I am so paranoid about my face. I had an issue with breakouts that I battled with non-stop for a few years starting in my early 20’s, and it didn’t clear up until I met my amazing dermatologist earlier this year. Before her, I had tried everything, and had seen 3 other dermatologists, all unsuccessful, and all of which tried putting me on Acutane before I was referred to my current derm by one of my yoga clients.. and no, I never had to get on Acutane! BLESS HER. Needless to say, I now trust her explicitly, so unless she ok’s it, it’s not going on my face! There have been few things I’ve brought in that she’s given me a hard no to, but this one she gave me the green light to use! I really like this brand because it’s made in locally in California with super clean ingredients. The key ingredients are: kale, spinach, green tea, alfalfa, vitamins A, C, E, B5, aloe vera and chamomile- all things I’d eat!

vegan makeup remover

I actually had a hard time finding an effective vegan makeup remover when I started to switch over my products. Finding vegan makeup/face wipes was easy, but none of the ones I tried actually did what they were supposed to: take off my makeup effectively. I recently started using One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil and so far, so good! It works really well for removing face makeup, and mascara; and I haven’t had any issues with it irritating my eyes or skin. You can put it directly on your face or use it with a cotton pad, both ways work well!

vegan toner

I love love love the Indie Lee COQ-10 Toner. It’s an alcohol free, skin-balancing toner formulated with a powerful antioxidant called CoQ-10! CoQ-10 (also known as ubiquinone or coenzyme Q) is an enzyme that we produce naturally in our bodies (it’s actually in every cell and tissue) this enzyme helps neutralize free radicals, and keeps cells inside the body healthy, as well as keeping the skin cells healthy, firm, and supple. As we get older, our natural CoQ-10 levels decrease, but with a good CoQ-10 treatment you can provide your skin with added antioxidants, and help it create collagen and elastin! YESSSSS PLEASE!! I usually use this toner after I have removed makeup and cleansed, or I use it between workouts/yoga/classes I teach to keep my skin fresh and clean 🙂

vegan eye treatment

For my eyes I have been using the MyMatcha stick from Cocokind Skincare for about 7 months and I love it! It’s very moisturizing, and easy to apply since it’s in stick form (it looks like a giant chapstick!) I personally keep mine in the refrigerator (although you don’t have to), which I love because when I apply it cold it also de-puffs my eyes! Not gunna lie, I will use it under my eyes and then right on my lips too before I pop it back in the fridge.. it’s good for everything really, and great to travel with or keep in your bag for on the go! You can snag one of these MyMatcha sticks for under $9! Such a good deal, especially since after 7 months of use I am only half way through the stick!

I am prone to dark circles, so in addition to using an eye moisturizer I also take a supplement from HUM Nutrition called Wing Manwhich is a great vegan daily liver detox supplement that helps with dark circles! I just recently added it into my daily routine so I don’t have too much to report just yet (although if you do, leave me a comment below!!), but I wanted to share it anyways because when I found it I was surprised there was a supplement specifically for dark circles!

dark circles

OH YEAH! I also love the Runway Ready supplement packs from HUM Nutrition! They are basically a vegan friendly supplement combo for healthier hair, skin and nails. Now those I can report about as I have been taking them for a while now, and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon 🙂

As far as facial moisturizers go, I’m going to be 100% honest with ya: I have one that I was prescribed by my dermatologist, that I use on a semi-regular basis, and I definitely use it if I am experiencing breakouts (although those are few and far between these days thankfully!) BUT, with that being said, I do use other products, and mix them in intuitively.

vegan face moisturizer

I’m going to say it again, but I really love Pai skincare because their products are specially formulated for sensitive skin (Hi! that’s me!) I recently started rotating in the Chamomile & Rosehip Calming Day Cream from Pai and so far, so good! It’s very light, and VERY moisturizing. The other product I use is the Pai Skincare Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil and that I have been using for probably 7 or 8 months… I usually use the oil at night, a few times a week when I am feeling like I need some extra moisture and glow!

vegan acne treatment

Hands down, the Indie Lee Blemish Stick and Blemish Lotion are my go-to’s when blemishes pop up. I use the blemish lotion as an overnight treatment; and the blemish stick during the day!

vegan face mask

I started using Youth To The People’s Age Prevention Superfood Mask 5 or 6 months ago and honestly, I’M OBSESSED WITH THIS FACE MASK! It’s probably one of my top 3 vegan beauty products that I’ve discovered! It’s the only mask I use. I do it at least once, if not twice a week. It has SUPER clean ingredients: the main ingredients are spirulina, microalgae, kale, spinach, alfalfa, cross linked hyaluronic acid and Vitamins A/C/E/B5… love it! This masks superfood blend was created to speed up cell turnover, nourish skin with age-fighting phytonutrients, and the crosslinked hyaluronic acid offers up some serious moisture. I also forgot to mention this before, but I love that all of the YTTP products come in glass containers!

vegan exfolient

For exfoliating I use a charcoal sponge from One Love Organics (Bamboo Charcoal Heart Spongeon a more regular basis, I keep it in the shower and use it as necessary. Because my skin is ultra sensitive I don’t use it every single day, but I’m sure I could because it’s pretty gentle. Plus, its really cute 😉 In thinking about it, I guess I tend to use it mostly after taking make up off, and after work, or long shoot days, just as an extra cleansing/detoxifying measure. When I am doing a self-care beauty night, I’ll use a more gritty exfoliant before I put on my YTTP mask, and for that I have been using the Active Enzyme Exfoliant by Josh Roosebrook; It’s gritty without being too harsh! I highly recommend it!

One last thing..

Before you go out and buy anything please remember that everyone’s skin is different! What works for me, may not work for you, so you may have to try a few things out before you find the right vegan beauty products for your skin. As always if you have any questions, or if you’d like to share your favorite vegan beauty products that were not included in this post then feel free to leave me a comment below!
