Fitness Goals: How to Get Back on Track

So you’ve fallen off the health and fitness band wagon… days became weeks, weeks have become months and now you’re wondering how in the world you’re going to get back on track with your yoga and/or fitness goals. Look, we’ve ALL been there.. and honestly, I am not even going to lie to you…I have been there more times than I’d like to admit.. but where there’s a will, there’s a way! You can begin again! Before I get into this post I want to make it very clear that if you’ve fallen off for a week, a month, or a year (or however long) IT’S OK. It’s ok bb. It’s not the end of the world, maybe you needed that time off- whatever the reason… it happened, it’s over, let’s move on; stop beating yourself up! The first step to getting back on track is FORGIVENESS, followed by DECIDING and COMMITTING! Which it seems like you’re there since you clicked on this blog post!! So now that you’ve decided and committed to getting back on track you need a plan of action; which is where my 7 tips for getting back on track with your yoga and fitness goals come into play!

Like I said earlier, I have fallen off more times than I’d like to admit, but because of that I feel like I can confidently write on this subject with all of the experience I have lol…I have tried it all and I now have some incredibly helpful and effective tips that I get to share with YOU! YAY! Every time I have fallen off track with my health/yoga/fitness goals these are the exact steps I take to get back on track! I also will be posting a Youtube video on this later this week, so be sure to subscribe to my channel – I plan to share a few extra tips and show you how I put these tips to work in the video! 🙂

YOGA & FITNESS GOALS: HOW TO GET BACK ON TRACK

FORGIVE: yep, this is my very first step.. before I do a anything else I have a pep talk with myself and decide that I am going to stop beating myself up for falling off. I have a tendency to be extremely hard on myself, and will let that personal disappointment get in the way of taking action so I have to literally declare TO MYSELF that I have been forgiven, we are moving on, letting that go and moving forward. Fresh start. Let’s goooooooo!

Decide & commit: This usually happens after weeks of me having a “false start” meaning I say ok TOMORROW I am going to get back on track! And then tomorrow comes and I still don’t prioritize it.. and then the happens 3 or 4 times..ugh.. You really have to decide that you are sick of your current situation and then commit to making a change! Write it down in your journal, write it as an affirmation on an index card and tape it where you’ll see it every day,  and/or meditate on it before bed/upon waking up. Where the mind goes the energy flows so keep it in the forefront of your mind that you have decided and you are committing!

Set goals & make a plan: once I have FOR REAL committed and decided to get back on track I sit down to set goals and make a plan!!! I’ve learned that it’s really difficult to get anywhere without being specific about where you want to go and how you’ll get there. For me just saying “I want to get back on my fitness game” or “this week I am going to eat clean” doesn’t really work.. I need to set a specific goal and decide how I am going to reach my goals. The plan may change (so be ok with being flexible) but I try to create a flexible plan that I will stick to in the beginning to at least help me START getting the ball rolling again. I like to type my plan up or write out my goals and tape them where I will see them every day as a constant reminder of what I have committed to!

Create a calendar or checklist for yourself for the week: this is my favorite favorite thing ever!!! I am a very visual person and I love making lists, so this is key for me when it comes to sticking to my goals. I will create a weekly or monthly calendar on my computer and type in my plan: for example Monday/Wednesday/Friday BBG, yoga on x-y-z etc. etc.then I leave room on the calendar for me to write in what I actually did. Because my day to day schedule is always changing I have had to learn to be flexible (which is not in my nature lol- I am super type-a!) allowing for some changes and flexibility helps me stick to my goals and keeping track each day helps me figure out what workouts/goals may have been missed so I can do them later in the week or switch workouts around!

Schedule in your workouts/yoga classes: I don’t know about you but I am really good at making excuses- so for me scheduling in my workouts and yoga practice really helps me look at it as an appointment, and one that I simply can not miss. I will also sign up for classes ahead of time so that I can’t back out.. which takes me to my next 2 tips:

Make workout/yoga dates wth friends: THIS IS SO SO SO HELPFUL!!! Like I said above, I have a tendency to make excuses or do other things instead of prioritizing my own health/yoga/fitness appointments I make wit myself but having someone to  hold me accountable really helps! I tend to be better about getting up early and going to a work…t for whatever reason, the later in the day it gets,  the more my motivation fades- so if on a specific day I know I am not able to workout until later in the day I try to make a date with a friend so that I won’t skip out on it!

Invest in a class pack at your favorite studio: I have a gym membership, I have ebooks that allow me to workout at home, I am a yoga teacher and know a lot of flows I could do at home….but when I am off track I need that extra motivation/guidance of going somewhere and being told what to do lol. One of my favorite fool proof ways to get back on track is to sign up for a few classes at my favorite studio. Knowing that I have the above mentioned, the last thing I want to do is spend MORE money on classes, but I have come to realize it is worth it because it truly does help me re-commit!! Last month I was in a total rut so I bought a few classes to a couple of my favorite workout places, booked the classes, scheduled it in and it really did help me get the ball rolling again!

Hope these tips help you bb’s, and if you have any good tips that I didn’t list above pleeeeeease leave them below in a comment! Sharing is caring, ya know?! Also, for more tips and tricks on the reg follow me on Instagram 🙂 That’s all for now, have the best day ever! Love you guys!!
